Mathematics

The aims of our International Baccalaureate MYP mathematics are to encourage and enable students to enjoy mathematics, develop curiosity and begin to appreciate its elegance and power. Mathematics in MYP builds on students’ mathematical experiences in the Primary Years. Students continue to develop their understanding of numbers and algebra, geometry and measures, and statistics. They develop confidence, perseverance and independence in mathematical thinking and problem-solving. They are encouraged to apply and transfer their skills to a wide range of real-life situations and seek connections between other areas of study. They learn to reflect critically upon their own work, and grow in resilience and creative thinking. Students have opportunities to work both independently and collaboratively, and they are encouraged to explore a range of resources to aid their learning and communicate their ideas. Students learn to appreciate the international dimension in mathematics through an awareness of the universality of mathematics and its multicultural and historical perspectives. The MYP mathematics course provides a good basis for further study of mathematics, sciences and humanities courses.

Our International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB DP) Mathematics curriculum offers students a dynamic learning experience that equips them with essential analytical and problem-solving skills. In both Higher Level (HL) and Standard Level (SL) courses, students engage with rigorous mathematical concepts tailored to their individual aptitudes and interests. With a focus on both the Application and Interpretation (AI) and Analysis and Approaches (AA) strands, our program emphasizes real-world connections and theoretical understanding alike. Through a blend of theory and practical application, students develop a deep appreciation for mathematics while honing their abilities to tackle complex challenges in an increasingly data-driven and technologically advanced world.

Our students have excelled in mathematics competitions like the UK Maths Challenge, showcasing their strong mathematical abilities and dedication to academic achievement. This success has translated into admissions to top-tier universities for subjects such as engineering, underscoring their proficiency in mathematics and its practical applications.
