Language and Literature
Texts surround us. Billboards on highways. Newspaper stands. Television programmes. The novels we read to relax and the websites we visit to learn. Language and Literature is a diverse and rigorous subject that encourages students to consider their world by exploring a wide range of these texts. From novels and poetry to advertising and film; the subject opens their eyes to how all forms of communication are used to persuade, entertain and inform. Through this subject, they will hone their critical thinking and expand their creativity. They will be challenged to write essays, present speeches, participate in debates, question their assumptions, compose poetry, invent narratives and discuss global concerns with their classmates. Texts are drawn from all corners of the world and are selected carefully to represent as many diverse voices and big issues as possible. Students are equally encouraged to develop their love of reading as well as their accurate communication skills.
