Budapest British International School (BBIS) is an outstanding school for families looking for an exceptional international education experience for their children. Currently we have around 200 pupils representing 34 countries.

BBIS offers a traditional British education in the beautiful Hungarian capital, with a personalized approach to learning. It is our mission to enable pupils to achieve academic excellence and more than they think they can, in a small caring school. We nurture creative and responsible global citizens, with mindsets for success.

We are committed to providing a stimulating and motivating learning environment, one that equips and prepares our pupils for the 21st century. We believe that everyone in school should enjoy learning and feel proud of their achievements. To fulfil this, we provide a curriculum which gives equal value to developing children’s academic, social, physical, and global understanding. Our aim is to prepare every child for success in the changing world, by helping them achieve more than they think they can. Through fostering self-confidence and a life-long love of learning, we hope our pupils have a full and happy adult life.

We offer the UK National Curriculum in Primary, to ensure the highest standards of core subjects such as English, Maths and Science, before entry into the BBIS Senior School.  We use the gold standard GL Assessments from the UK, in addition to regular unit assessments, to regularly assess your child’s progress in English and Maths and Reading across the primary and into the senior school, which then allows us to compare our students to the top performing British International Schools around the world.

In our senior school we offer the MYP (Middle Years Programme of the International Baccalaureate) which will continue through to the IB DP (Diploma Programme of the International Baccalaureate). As an entry qualification to university, the International Baccalaureate Diploma is the favoured of all university admissions directors, and research has shown, in recent research by the Australian Council for Educational Research, that MYP students performed significantly better in their final Diploma points than those who had only taken the iGCSE, GCSE or “O” level curriculum.

All subjects, except foreign languages, are taught in English by a team of dedicated and enthusiastic professionals, most of whom are native English speakers and bring with them a wealth of experience both from the UK and internationally. Teachers are chosen not only for their excellent qualifications but for their caring attitudes and commitment to outstanding education. They are dedicated to the pupils and maintain strong partnerships with our parents.

We strongly value the relationship we have with parents and recognize that effective partnerships are essential. We appreciate the support our parents give us and the role they play in enriching our children’s experiences and supporting their child’s education. Parents are most welcome into school to help or discuss their child’s progress or any matters of concern.

We welcome children from all ethnic groups, backgrounds and creeds. All applicants for admission will be treated equally. We encourage children to come for a trial day to our school, to meet teachers and the other children, and to help us in the assessment process. We do however, appreciate that this may be difficult for families coming from abroad, and offer the opportunity for an online test in their current school, without the trial day. There is the possibility as well that children have a skype meeting with our Principal, Mr. David Porritt.
