The International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP)

At BBIS, we proudly implement the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP) for students from Early Years through Grade 5. The PYP is an internationally recognised, inquiry-based curriculum framework that places your child at the centre of learning. It nurtures curiosity, independence, and a strong sense of personal and social responsibility.

Learning Through Inquiry

The PYP encourages students to ask questions, explore ideas, and make meaningful connections to the world around them. Rather than simply memorising facts, children learn through hands-on experiences, discussions, and investigations that develop a deep understanding of concepts.

A Whole-Child Approach

The PYP focuses on developing the whole child academically, socially, and emotionally. Learning is guided by the IB Learner Profile, which helps students become caring, open-minded, principled, reflective, and confident individuals who are ready to take action in their community.

Transdisciplinary Learning

Subjects are not taught in isolation. Instead, students explore big ideas through Units of Inquiry, which integrate language, mathematics, science, social studies, the arts, and PSPE. This approach helps children see the relevance of what they are learning and apply their skills in real-world contexts.

Building Skills for the Future

Throughout the PYP, students develop essential approaches to learning (ATL skills), such as thinking and problem-solving, communication, research and inquiry, self-management, and collaboration. These skills help students become independent learners who take responsibility for their learning.

Taking Action

A core element of the PYP is encouraging students to take meaningful action based on what they learn. This may include helping others, raising awareness, making positive choices, or initiating small projects that contribute to their class or the wider community.
