At BBIS, our programme of inquiry contains units of inquiry which are organised around the six transdisciplinary themes. Each unit of inquiry (UOI) includes a central idea, lines of inquiry and key concepts.
UNITS OF INQUIRY (UOI)
At BBIS, a unit of inquiry usually lasts around 5 or 6 weeks and delves deeply into a concept. Students will inquire into a central idea using their lines of inquiry, prompted by student and teacher questions which guide the learning.
CENTRAL IDEA
Each UOI is guided by a central idea which supports students’ understanding of the particular transdisciplinary theme it is connected to. At BBIS, we seek to challenge and extend the prior knowledge of our students and encourage them to become inquirers. The central idea is engaging, challenging and relevant to the real world.
LINE OF INQUIRY
Each unit will contain three or four lines of inquiry which define the scope of the inquiry. These give focus to students’ research, and deepen their understanding on a real life level. We make connections between the lines of inquiry as well as with the central idea.
KEY CONCEPT
At BBIS, our Programme of Inquiry (POI) allows for the opportunity to explore all eight PYP key concepts in greater depth.
